Amazon Imposter Thieves Hit Milpitas Home in Bizarre Burglary

A resident of Milpitas, Donna Kato, had her home burglarized on September 16 while she was on vacation. The thieves used a bizarre tactic to gain entry: they posed as Amazon delivery drivers.

The suspect wore an Amazon vest and knocked aggressively on the door, not ringing the bell. After realizing no one was home, he looked at his phone and walked down the street.

A short time later, two people wearing masks, sunglasses, and hats pulled up in a car. They entered Kato's backyard through the gate, smashed her sliding glass door, and disabled her modem, which took her alarm system and Ring cameras offline.

The thieves spent about 10 minutes inside the house before leaving with Kato's safe, which contained irreplaceable family heirlooms, including a custom-made Omega gold and diamond watch and a diamond and emerald necklace.

Milpitas Police Department spokesperson Jason Speckenheuer said burglars often look for the 'path of least resistance' and use tactics to avoid detection. He advised residents to make their homes less attractive to potential thieves by installing alarms and cameras, and not to answer suspicious knocks at the door.
