Amazon Unveils Electric Cargo Bikes to Ease Traffic Congestion in California
Amazon has rolled out a new fleet of electric cargo bikes in Culver City, California to combat traffic congestion. The company aims to reduce the number of vehicles on city streets and meet its Climate Pledge to reach net-zero carbon by 2040.
The e-cargo bikes can carry around 240 packages per shift, including one refill stop. They are equipped with rear cameras, regenerative braking, and automatic parking brakes, allowing them to operate at a speed of up to 12 mph.
Amazon says the pedal-powered vehicles take up less space than traditional delivery vans and can use bike lanes, making it easier for delivery workers to navigate through congested streets.
