Amex Aeroplan Reserve Fee Jumps to $799 with New Benefits

Canadian Aeroplan cardholders are in for some significant changes next year. American Express is refreshing its five-card Aeroplan portfolio, but along with new benefits come higher fees. The Aeroplan Reserve Card and Business Reserve Card will see their annual fee jump from $599 to $799.

The Reserve cards' benefits are being expanded, starting January 12, 2027. Cardholders can earn up to $100 in Air Canada travel credits through AC wallet, split into two $50 credits per year. They'll also enjoy 15% savings when redeeming Aeroplan points for Air Canada flight rewards and access to an extended Maple Leaf Lounge network.

The lounge benefits include six Priority Pass visits per year and eight passes annually for Aspire American Express lounges in Canada. Cardholders will also get priority security lanes for themselves and up to eight companions. Additionally, they'll earn a 10% Aeroplan points bonus when spending $125,000 in a year, with an extra 10% bonus for each additional $25,000 spent, up to $400,000.

Other perks include a $200 Annual Dining Credit and free fourth nights at over 300,000 hotels or rental days at more than 11,000 locations. With the higher fees, users may want to consider cheaper alternatives like the Amex Cobalt ($155.88/year) or the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite ($159/year).
