Android Expert Ditches Google Keep for Self-Hosted Note-Taking App Kept

Dhruv Bhutani, an experienced writer and reviewer of Android devices, has switched from Google Keep to Kept, a self-hosted note-taking app that offers similar functionality without relying on cloud-based services. Kept allows users to import their existing notes via Google Takeout, making the transition process seamless.

One of the main reasons Bhutani chose Kept was his desire for control over his data. He noted that using a cloud-based service meant ceding control of his data to third-party servers, which he no longer felt comfortable with.

Kept's Docker-based setup makes it easy to deploy and run on local infrastructure, providing users with full control over their data. The app also offers features such as regular text notes, checklists, images, links, and file attachments, making it a suitable replacement for Google Keep.
