Apple Pay Lands in India with Limited Initial Support
Apple Pay has launched in India, marking its entry into more than 90 countries and regions. The service supports Visa and Mastercard credit cards issued by Axis Bank at launch.
Initially, Apple Pay does not support Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments or RuPay cards. Users can use the service on iPhone and iPad, with support for Mac computers in the works.
Jennifer Bailey, Apple's vice-president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, said India is home to a 'dynamic and digitally savvy population' that expects high standards of security and privacy.
Apple has partnered with several Indian payments firms, including Cashfree, JusPay, Mswipe, Paytm, PayU, Pine Labs, Razorpay, and Worldline, to enable the launch across their merchant networks.
