Apple's Tap to Pay Expands to Eight Latin American Markets
Apple has expanded its Tap to Pay on iPhone feature to eight Latin American markets, including Costa Rica. The service allows businesses to accept in-person contactless payments directly through an iPhone, without a separate card reader or payment terminal.
The rollout in Costa Rica is part of Apple's expansion efforts and marks the company's first foray into the country's market. Merchants can use the Tap to Pay feature through three payment platforms: Geopagos, Symbiotic, and Visa Acceptance Solutions.
To use the service, businesses need an iPhone XS or later running the latest version of iOS and a compatible payment app. The merchant then opens the app and asks the customer to hold their contactless card, iPhone, Apple Watch, or other digital wallet near the merchant's phone for NFC processing.
