Archer Aviation Clears Regulatory Hurdle in Acquisition of Boeing Subsidiaries
Archer Aviation's acquisition of Boeing's Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu subsidiaries has cleared a key regulatory hurdle. The companies announced that the Hart-Scott-Rodino waiting period expired at 11:59 p.m. EDT on September 18, advancing the deal to combine autonomous aircraft, airspace software, and AI into a comprehensive physical AI platform for aerospace and defense.
The transaction still requires other regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, but Archer continues to expect the deal to close by the end of 2026. When completed, the combined system will be a physical AI platform spanning autonomous aircraft and the software used to manage them, adding autonomy, sensing, flight-control, and operational data to Archer's ZEE AI platform.
Wisk has developed six generations of electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft and completed more than 1,700 flight tests. SkyGrid develops software for managing automated airspace and coordinating aircraft traffic, while Insitu builds uncrewed aircraft used for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.
