AWS Fails Major Reliability Test in Middle East
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has faced a major test in the Middle East, where strikes damaged facilities in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates six months ago.
The damage was extensive, spanning multiple availability zones in Bahrain and exceeding what AWS had designed its regional systems to withstand.
Clients have migrated their workloads to other locations, using backups when available. However, AWS is still working to replace damaged infrastructure in one UAE availability zone.
In Bahrain, Amazon has exhausted all options for recovering data that was not moved or backed up elsewhere, making this more than a temporary outage.
