Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the general availability of new low-cost burstable Amazon EC2 T8i instances. These instances are powered by custom sixth generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors and offer up to 30% better price performance compared to previous generation T3 instances.

T8i instances are designed for workloads that require low-to-moderate CPU utilization, such as freemium services, training and demo environments, staging and development, data processing, microservices, low-traffic websites, and login gateways. They offer unique vCPU-to-memory ratios and utilize the CPU credit system along with Standard and Unlimited credit configuration modes.

According to AWS, T8i instances deliver up to 70% higher compute performance compared to T3 instances, as well as up to 1.25x higher network bandwidth and up to 2.4x higher EBS bandwidth. Existing T3 customers can easily upgrade to T8i instances, which also provide a cost-effective entry point for new customers.
