AWS Struggles to Restore Access to Damaged Data Centers in Gulf Region

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has been unable to restore access to some data at its damaged facilities in the Persian Gulf region. The company's data centers in Bahrain and parts of its network in the United Arab Emirates were hit by damage during the US-Iran conflict.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that the Bahrain facilities were struck due to Amazon's support for US military operations. Satellite imagery showed hits to two Amazon data centers in Bahrain, exceeding the company's designed resilience.

Most customers had already moved their workloads to server farms in other countries between the first strikes in March and subsequent damage in April that knocked out Amazon's data center network in the country.
