Bakso the Tiger Leaves Disney World for Conservation Efforts
Bakso, the Sumatran tiger at Disney's Animal Kingdom, is preparing to leave his home of two years. Born in September 2024, Bakso has grown from a young cub into a full-grown adult and will soon be transferred to another Association of Zoos & Aquariums-accredited zoo as part of the Species Survival Plan.
The plan helps accredited zoos work together to support endangered animal populations in managed care. With fewer than 600 Sumatran tigers remaining in the wild, Bakso's move could contribute significantly to the long-term future of the critically endangered species.
Bakso will remain at Maharajah Jungle Trek for a limited time before leaving Walt Disney World. Guests have until his exact departure date is announced to visit him at the park.
