Biman Doubles Down on Boeing with Record-Breaking Fleet Expansion
Biman Bangladesh Airlines is taking its Boeing order book to 25 aircraft after signing an agreement for 11 more jets, including five 787-10s and six 737-8s. The deal was signed in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The new aircraft are valued at around $2.42 billion based on Boeing's 2023 catalogue prices. Biman is also negotiating with Airbus for 10 planes, including four A350-900s and six A321neos, which could bring its total order book to 35 aircraft.
Aviation experts say adding more aircraft alone will not guarantee growth for Biman, as the airline needs to determine where to deploy the additional capacity, operate the aircraft profitably, and strengthen its management team. The experts point out that Biman has not publicly released a consolidated business case showing how the expanded fleet would be deployed.
