Biman Orders 10 Airbus Jets Worth Over $2 Billion
Biman Bangladesh Airlines is making significant strides in its fleet expansion program with two major announcements. The airline is set to order 10 Airbus aircraft, consisting of four A350-900 widebody jets and six A321neos, on October 7. This agreement is estimated to be worth over $2 billion and marks the final split between models in Biman's planned Airbus acquisition.
The addition of these new aircraft types will support Biman's long-haul expansion with the A350-900s and regional routes with the A321neos. The current fleet consists of Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 737-800s, making both the A350-900s and A321neos new additions to Biman's fleet.
The Airbus agreement comes on the heels of another major purchase by Biman, which signed for five Boeing 787-10s and six 737 MAX 8s just days ago. This deal increases Biman's Boeing acquisition program to 25 aircraft, with a total of 35 new planes in the pipeline when combined with the Airbus purchases.
The agreement has not yet been formally signed, but details on delivery dates for the A350-900s and A321neos may emerge at Wednesday's ceremony. The Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister, M Rashiduzzaman Millat, had confirmed that the agreement would be completed in October.
