BlackBerry AtHoc Expands Alerts to WhatsApp and Microsoft Teams
BlackBerry AtHoc has expanded its critical event alert system to include WhatsApp and Microsoft Teams, ensuring messages reach more people during emergencies. Traditionally, alerts sent via SMS, email, or phone calls often face delays or distrust due to unfamiliar senders. By integrating WhatsApp and Microsoft Teams, BlackBerry AtHoc aims to deliver alerts through apps that people already use daily, increasing the likelihood of immediate recognition and action.
WhatsApp alerts arrive from a verified business profile, eliminating hesitation caused by unknown numbers. Users must opt-in by adding their WhatsApp number to their AtHoc profile, ensuring consent is captured for compliance. Alerts include titles, response options, locations, and attachments, with delivery statuses reported back to the AtHoc platform for accountability.
For Microsoft Teams, alerts appear directly within the app, whether on desktop or mobile, ensuring consistent reception across devices. Operators can choose to send just the title or include the full message, with response options integrated seamlessly into Teams. The AtHoc publisher app for Teams also allows operators to publish alerts directly from a Teams chat, streamlining coordination during emergencies.
Both integrations maintain the same governance and reporting standards as existing channels, ensuring no separate consoles or fragmented incident records. This expansion is designed to complement, not replace, other alert channels, providing redundancy in case of network failures or platform outages. BlackBerry emphasizes the importance of mapping populations to the most effective channels and validating alerts with small groups before full deployment.
