A former IBM research campus in San Jose is getting a new lease on life under the ownership of Blackstart Digital. The company has acquired the 35-acre property at 650 Harry Road, which includes seven buildings with over 500,000 square feet of space.

The site was previously zoned for industrial use after the San Jose City Council voted to rezone it in August. Blackstart said it plans to retain the existing buildings and has filed for environmental review for any renovations.

Blackstart is eyeing high-power computing uses for the campus, including advanced research and development, startup incubators, academic partnerships, and even quantum computing. The company also envisions energy-efficiency measures such as closed-loop cooling and battery safety systems.
