Boeing Secures $20 Billion Contract for Next-Generation Stealth Fighter
Boeing has been awarded a major contract by the US Navy to develop and produce its next-generation stealth fighter, known as F/A-XX. This marks Boeing's second consecutive win in the field of fighter jets, beating out rival Northrop Grumman Corp.
The development contract is worth $20 billion and will be used to produce test aircraft for the program. The Pentagon has stated that this program could grow to hundreds of billions of dollars over its lifetime as production ramps up and international customers place orders.
First production F/A-XX jets are expected in the 2030s, giving Boeing a significant lead in the field of stealth fighter technology. This contract is also seen as a major boost for Boeing's defense division, which has been facing increased competition from other companies in recent years.
The program is central to US strategy for countering China in the Pacific and will provide the Navy with advanced capabilities to detect and engage enemy aircraft and missiles.
