Boeing Secures FAA Approval for 737-7 After Decade-Long Development Process

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted an amended type certificate to the Boeing 737-7, marking a significant milestone in the aircraft's development. The certification comes after nearly a decade of technical reviews, design changes, and extensive testing, which were accelerated by the 2018 fatal accidents involving the 737 MAX 8.

The 737-7 is the smallest member of the 737 MAX family and can accommodate between 135 and 160 passengers. It boasts the maximum range of any MAX variant, with a capacity to travel up to 3,800 nautical miles (approximately 7,040 kilometers). This capability enables airlines to serve terminals with operational limitations and operate thinner long-range routes.

The certification process involved over 1,000 hours of combined flight and ground testing, as well as comprehensive system safety assessments and human factors evaluations. The FAA conducted or reviewed major portions of the certification work, which included flight controls, safety assessments, pilot alerting systems, engine systems, and other critical aircraft functions.
