Boeing Sends Contract Offer to Engineers Union Ahead of Expiring Deal
Boeing has sent a contract offer to the union representing its engineers and technical workers in the commercial airplane division. The proposal was endorsed by the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace's (SPEEA) negotiating team, who claim it offers 'real and meaningful value' to members.
The current SPEEA contract expires on October 6, and union officials will review the terms before making a recommendation to members next week. A strike could delay certification campaigns for Boeing's 737 MAX 10 and 777-9 aircraft, which are already years behind schedule.
Boeing has had three major union contract negotiations in as many years, with the previous two ending after extended strikes. The company recently reached a contract with SPEEA members at Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita, Kansas, which included a $6,000 ratification bonus and annual wage increases.
