Boeing White-Collar Union Accepts Contract Offer Amid Pay Raises
Boeing's white-collar union has approved its second contract offer, avoiding a potential work stoppage. The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) represents 17,000 workers at Boeing's Washington factories and nearby states. Its members voted on the deal after rejecting the company's first offer in August, which sparked concerns about a possible strike.
The second contract offer secured significant victories for the union, including an average pay increase of 32% over four years. The deal includes a 10% guaranteed wage increase and a 4% raise in March. Additionally, it increases wage pools by 6% annually, ensuring that individuals receive at least a 4% annual raise.
SPEEA's negotiating team acknowledged that their work is not done yet. They aim to rebuild trust with the membership, which has eroded over the past decades. The union's professional unit voted in favor of the contract by nearly 68%, while the technical unit approved it by a much thinner margin of 53%.
