Boeing Wins $20 Billion Contract for US Navy's Sixth-Gen Fighter
Boeing has secured two major next-generation fighter contracts worth over $20 billion, solidifying its position in both the US Navy's and Air Force's future fighter fleets.
The company won a contract to develop the F/A-XX carrier-based fighter for the Navy, which is part of the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program. This comes just 18 months after Boeing secured the Air Force's F-47 fighter contract, worth billions.
Boeing will invest heavily in its manufacturing facility in St. Louis to build both fighters in parallel, using what it calls 'the world's most advanced, all-digital aerospace design and manufacturing system.'
The F/A-XX is intended to replace the Navy's F/A-18 Super Hornets by the 2030s and will have longer range capabilities than its predecessor. It will also be designed to operate with crewed and uncrewed platforms.
