Boeing Wins $40 Billion Contracts for Next-Gen Fighters F/A-XX and F-47
Boeing has won a contract valued at over $20 billion to develop the U.S. Navy's F/A-XX carrier-based fighter, which will replace the F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and EA-18G Growlers in the 2030s.
The manufacturer also recently secured a contract for the sixth-generation F-47 program to replace the F-22 Raptor fleet, with first flight targeted for 2028. Boeing's full-scale development contract for the F/A-XX will cover the procurement of multiple aircraft for ground, airworthiness, systems, and weapons integration testing.
The F/A-XX is intended to be capable of teaming with uncrewed aircraft platforms, such as the Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA), which are part of the Navy's Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program. The fighter will feature advanced mission systems and extend the reach and capability of carriers.
Boeing has been undertaking a multibillion-dollar expansion of its facilities in St. Louis to support its next-generation fighter efforts, including building what it claims will be the largest secure manufacturing facility in the U.S. and one of the world's most advanced.
