Boeing has finally received certification for its smallest 737 MAX model, the MAX 7, after years of delays. The aircraft received FAA approval on August 3, 2026, and is expected to be delivered to Southwest Airlines in 2027.

The MAX 7 aims to replace older 737-700s with improved fuel efficiency by up to 20%. It can seat between 135-160 passengers and has a range of approximately 3,800 nautical miles. The aircraft faced regulatory delays after the 2018-2019 MAX crashes and a 2024 incident involving an Alaska Airlines plane.

Boeing had to implement technical fixes, including upgrades to the engine anti-ice system, before receiving approval. Around 30 assembled MAX 7s are awaiting reconfiguration and airworthiness certification before being handed over to customers.
