Brin Bets Big Against California Billionaire Tax
Google co-founder Sergey Brin has poured $102 million into fighting California's proposed billionaire tax, making him the largest individual donor in the high-stakes battle.
The tax, which would impose a one-time 5% levy on the wealth of roughly 200 billionaires in the state, is expected to appear on California's November ballot. Brin's net worth is estimated at nearly $260 billion, making him one of the biggest taxpayers affected by the proposal.
Brin's contributions account for more than half of the over $187 million raised by opponents of the measure so far. By comparison, groups supporting the tax have raised about $32 million.
