Canadians Demand Financial Contribution from Netflix and Disney+
A recent poll conducted by Nanos on behalf of Bloomberg News has revealed that most Canadians want streaming giants like Netflix Inc. and Walt Disney Co. to contribute financially to Canadian content creation.
The survey, which was conducted in September 2026, found that 73% of respondents supported subjecting streamers to the same rules imposed on Canadian broadcasters to fund Canadian content, up from 67% in May 2022.
This requirement has been met with fierce opposition from US streaming companies, but Canadians are pushing for their government to take action. The poll suggests that Canadians want to see a more significant contribution from streamers towards the production of local content.
