Caterpillar Commits Up to $10M in Illinois Workforce Development

Caterpillar Inc. has committed up to $10 million in workforce development funds to Illinois as part of its Building the Future Workforce Initiative. The program aims to prepare workers for modern manufacturing and industry technician positions, which are currently facing a significant labor shortage. According to the Manufacturing Institute, more than 2 million manufacturing jobs could go unfilled by 2030.

The investment will extend across several Illinois cities where Caterpillar has an existing manufacturing footprint, including East Peoria, Mapleton, Morton, Pontiac, and Decatur. Company officials say the state offers the infrastructure, talent, and educational institutions needed to develop training models that could be replicated across the country.

Caterpillar plans to collaborate with Illinois' institutions and employers to provide more accessible training that leads to career advancement, implement programs to help students, parents, and educators understand modern manufacturing, and explore innovative training and financing models so workers can access community-tailored programs.
