Caterpillar Drops Billion-Dollar Bet on North Carolina Manufacturing Hub
Caterpillar Inc., a leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, plans to invest approximately $1 billion in North Carolina. The investment will support the expansion of manufacturing capacity for its compact equipment business.
The new facility in Sanford, North Carolina, aims to meet growing customer demand for compact track loaders and telehandlers used in various applications such as construction, landscaping, agriculture, and material handling.
According to Rod Shurman, president of Caterpillar's Construction Industries Group, 'As demand for compact equipment continues to increase, we're investing to better serve this growing segment of customers.'
The new facility will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies, automation, digital production systems, and integrated logistics capabilities. The company expects the project to create opportunities for advanced manufacturing careers in areas including automation, robotics, and digital manufacturing systems.
