Caterpillar Inc., a US-based heavy equipment manufacturer, plans to invest approximately $1 billion in North Carolina as part of its growth strategy. The company has announced that it intends to build a new manufacturing facility in Sanford, North Carolina, which will increase production of compact track loaders and telehandlers.

The planned investment aims to support Caterpillar's Cat Compact business and improve access to equipment for small contractors and growing businesses. This move is part of the company's efforts to expand its presence in the market and meet increasing demand for its products.

Caterpillar has also recently entered into an agreement to acquire John Fabick Tractor Company, a Cat dealer serving portions of Missouri and Illinois, all of Wisconsin, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The transaction is expected to close within 30 days, subject to regulatory approval.
