McDonald's Media Network Aims to Unlock $1 Billion in Ad Revenue
McDonald's has announced plans to create a new revenue stream by leveraging its existing customer base. The company aims to generate $1 billion in ad revenue through its McDonald's Media Network, which will allow advertisers to reach millions of customers every day.
The network will utilize various channels, including menu boards, kiosks, and in-app ads, to display commercials. With 70 million daily customers and nearly 220 million loyalty members, McDonald's has a significant audience that can be monetized.
According to Global Chief Marketing Officer Morgan Flatley, the company aspires to build the network into a $1 billion business across the system over time. The pilot program is currently being tested in 450 company-owned U.S. restaurants, and if successful, it could increase cash flow by $700 million at $1 billion in ad revenue.
McDonald's has been experiencing a decline in sales due to inflation and flat industry traffic, but the introduction of the McDonald's Media Network could help balance some of this spending. The company is also investing heavily in its NEXT partnering program, which includes rent relief and capital support for franchisees.
