Caterpillar Shares Rise on Remote Autonomy Tech Trials
Caterpillar's shares rose about 0.8% to $811.58 on Friday as the heavy-equipment maker showcased its remote autonomy technology at an Arizona landfill.
The machine, a dozer, allowed operators to control it from a distance, away from the heat, dust, and unstable ground.
This is part of Caterpillar's testing process for its technology. WM is working with Caterpillar to test an autonomous compactor after piloting the remote-controlled dozer.
The company Luck Stone has already seen success with autonomous trucks at its Bull Run quarry in Virginia, hauling over 3.5 million tons since November 2024.
Caterpillar hasn't put a dollar figure on these deployments, leaving investors to wait for evidence of wider use bringing meaningful service revenue or productivity gains.
