Chapek Accuses Disney of Erasing Him After 'Let Down' by Iger

Bob Chapek, former CEO of The Walt Disney Company, has spoken out about his time at the helm in an interview with Variety. Chapek claims that he was 'let down' by his predecessor and successor, Bob Iger, who allegedly undermined him during his tenure as CEO.

Chapek, who left the company in 2022, attributes his firing to Iger's reluctance to give up the top spot at Disney. In his upcoming book, Behind the Castle Walls: My Thirty Years at the Happiest Place on Earth, Chapek mentions Iger 121 times, highlighting their tumultuous relationship.

When asked about his mistakes during his time as CEO, Chapek acknowledged that he may have made some errors, but claimed they were not enough to warrant his termination. He also expressed disappointment over the company's decision to remove a commemorative sign at Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the Bahamas, which honored his achievements.

Chapek stated that the removal of the sign was 'spiteful' and part of a broader effort by the company to erase him from its history. He also mentioned that he has not had any communication with Iger since leaving Disney in 2022, although they did meet briefly at the Sun Valley business-titan conference in July 2022.
