Nvidia Touts AI Containment Platform Amid Growing Concerns

Nvidia has announced a new platform aimed at containing runaway AI agents that can cause problems for their developers. The Open Agent Safety Platform includes two elements: OpenShell and Sentry.

OpenShell is a 'sandbox' where AI agents can operate, with rules in place to govern their behavior. Nvidia's vice president of enterprise AI, Justin Boitano, said that relying on written instructions can be unreliable, as agents may not follow them or may encounter technical issues.

The company claims that OpenShell provides a secure runtime boundary, tracing all actions and enforcing policy as agents run on its Vera chips. It is open-source, allowing it to work with rival computing platforms from companies like Arm and Intel.

Sentry operates at the hardware level, acting as a 'watchdog' that monitors agent behavior and can quarantine them instantly if they try to do something out of bounds.
