Chilean Air Force Retires Phalcon-Equipped EB-707 Condor After 27 Years
The Chilean Air Force's EB-707 Condor was an airborne early warning and control aircraft that served from 1995 to 2022.
Built as a Boeing 707-385C in 1965, the airframe had a long life before being rebuilt around the Elta EL/M-2075 Phalcon radar by Israel Aerospace Industries and its subsidiary Elta.
The Phalcon radar was a game-changer, replacing traditional rotating dish antennas with fixed arrays built into the aircraft's skin, allowing for electronic scanning without moving parts.
The Condor was the first AEW&C aircraft in service in South America, giving Chile an advanced early warning system that could detect targets at around 400 kilometers.
