Cisco, Zoom Take Different Paths to AI in Communications
Cisco and Zoom are taking competing approaches to artificial intelligence in their communication platforms, while Google has made it easier for users to join meetings across different calendar systems.
At Goldman Sachs' Communacopia + Technology Conference, Cisco's Jeetu Patel announced that AI agents now account for 60% of total token volume moving through the company's systems, up fourteenfold since February. However, he noted that serious enterprise adoption of agents is still at under 2% of the workforce.
Cisco has folded over 250 acquisitions into a single platform spanning silicon, networking, security, observability, and collaboration, with AI playing a key role in building its products. The company expects around 70% of its portfolio to be entirely AI-written by the end of next year.
Zoom's Michelle Chang made a different argument at the conference, drawing a distinction between systems of engagement and systems of record. She said Zoom can capture the context of conversations as they happen and turn it into something usable before the call ends.
