Coca-Cola Plant Finds New Life as Mixed-Use Destination

The former Coca-Cola bottling plant in Indianapolis has been transformed from an unused industrial site into a thriving mixed-use destination called Bottleworks District.

The project, led by Hendricks Commercial Properties, began in 2018 when the company purchased the 12-acre site. The property had changed hands several times since Coca-Cola sold it to the Indianapolis Public School system in 1968.

Rubush & Hunter's original design from 1930 still stands out today, with its Art Deco details and white terra cotta exterior being carefully restored during the redevelopment process.

The transformation brought the site back into the city grid, reconnecting streets and sidewalks to improve access for both drivers and pedestrians. The Bottleworks District also benefits from its location along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, linking it with downtown Indianapolis and nearby cultural areas.
