Coinbase Seeks CFTC Approval for US Stock Perpetual Futures, Including AAPL and TSLA

Coinbase Derivatives has filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to approve perpetual futures on individual U.S. stocks, including Apple (AAPL) and Tesla (TSLA) contracts.

The filing is the second half of a two-regulator process, following a notice registration with the SEC on September 1. Perpetual futures dominate global crypto trading but have never been traded on a regulated U.S. venue.

Coinbase Derivatives intends to list the contracts 'shortly following approval by the Commission, pending any additional necessary regulatory approvals.'

The submission used an Apple contract as its representative specification, which would be cash-settled, carry no fixed expiration, use hourly funding payments, and trade from Sunday 8 p.m. ET to Friday 5 p.m. ET.
