Coke's Perfect Storm: Strong Execution Meets Valuation Concerns
Coca-Cola has consistently beaten earnings estimates for ten consecutive quarters and raised its dividend for the 63rd straight year. The company's strong performance has led to a 28.05% price increase this year, with shares trading at $87.82.
The beverage giant's capital-light model has produced a 34.9% operating margin in the last quarter, while second-quarter adjusted EPS of $0.97 beat the estimate of $0.92. Revenue rose 6.74% to $13.38 billion, and management raised full-year comparable EPS growth guidance to 9% to 10%. Global unit case volume rose 5%, with Coca-Cola Zero Sugar volume increasing by 16%
However, analysts warn that the second half of the year may pose challenges for the company. The fourth quarter has six fewer days than a year ago, and the African bottling sale is expected to cut comparable EPS by about 1%. In Asia Pacific, price/mix fell 9%, while India lost value share.
Despite the strong execution, the stock's valuation may be fully priced in. Coca-Cola trades at 25 times forward earnings and 71 times free cash flow, which could make it vulnerable to a drop towards its 200-day moving average of $79.61.
