Dangote Agrees to Build $300 Million Refinery in Kenya
Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has taken another major step in his ambitious plans to build a $16 billion refinery in Lamu, Kenya. He signed an estimated $300 million agreement with US-based Honeywell Technologies to provide technology, engineering services, and equipment for the project.
The deal covers process technologies, licensing, engineering services, proprietary catalysts, equipment, and digital solutions for the refinery. According to Dangote, lessons learned from his existing refinery in Lagos will be applied to this new facility, combining proven technology with Kenyan expertise and wider African participation.
Dangote has set a 40-month deadline for construction of the facility, which is expected to become one of East Africa's largest energy developments. The project will have a processing capacity of 700,000 barrels per day and generate 1,000 megawatts of electricity, as well as produce polypropylene and base oil.
