JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has called for 'light-touch' federal oversight of artificial intelligence, a stance that may come as a surprise to some given his previous warnings about the dangers of AI.

In an interview with Yahoo Finance on September 16, Dimon said he believes preparation and industry collaboration should take priority over sweeping legislative mandates. He emphasized the need for cybersecurity measures, protection against deepfakes, and preventing the misuse of advanced models.

JPMorgan has already deployed AI across hundreds of internal use cases, including fraud detection and risk management, with an annual technology budget of $18 to $20 billion. Dimon's April 2026 shareholder letter highlighted the potential benefits of AI in boosting productivity.
