Disney Puts Tech Veteran at Helm of Streaming Business
Disney has made a significant move to strengthen its digital presence by naming Adam Smith as the chairman of direct-to-consumer for Disney Entertainment. This appointment highlights the importance that Disney places on technology development and growth, particularly with its streaming business.
Smith brings over two decades of experience in the tech industry, having previously worked at YouTube and Google. He will now head Disney's global entertainment streaming business, focusing on strategy and development of platforms, advertising technology, and emerging technologies.
In his new role, Smith aims to make Disney+ a one-stop shop for fans to engage with various aspects of Disney's entertainment, sports, games, and experiences sectors. This vision is in line with the company's goal under its new CEO, Josh D'Amaro, who wants the Disney+ app to be the central hub for all Disney-related content.
Smith was hired by Disney in 2024 and has been serving as co-president of direct-to-consumer and chief product and technology officer for Disney Entertainment and ESPN. His appointment is a testament to Disney's commitment to digital transformation and its recognition of the growing importance of streaming services.
