Disney Sues FCC Over Retaliation for 'The View' and Kimmel Criticism
The Walt Disney Company and ABC have filed a lawsuit against the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) led by Chairman Brendan Carr, alleging a violation of their First Amendment rights.
The lawsuit claims that the FCC has waged a retaliatory campaign against ABC due to its disapproval of the content broadcast on the network's shows, including The View and Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Carr had ordered an investigation into ABC's alleged violation of 'equal-time' rules, which requires providing equivalent access and airtime opportunities to competing political candidates.
The suit also cites Trump's social media posts criticizing ABC for its content and his suggestion that broadcast licenses should be terminated if late-night shows are 'almost 100% Negative to President Donald J. Trump'. The FCC had ordered Disney's eight owned-and-operated television stations to file their broadcast license renewals early, despite the licenses not being due for renewal for several years.
