Disney Trains 80,000 Cast Members with Comprehensive On-Site Training Program

Walt Disney World's largest employer is its own staff of 80,000 cast members. To train this massive workforce, Disney has developed a comprehensive training program that includes both global orientation and role-specific instruction.

At the heart of this effort is the Disney University, an on-site employee training facility where new cast members learn about the company's five key principles: safety, courtesy, inclusion, show, and efficiency. The university also offers professional development opportunities for those who wish to advance their careers within the company.

Ryan Pragano, a guest experiences manager with 13 years of experience at Disney World, attributes his success to the training he received at the university. He started as an hourly worker, earning between $19 and $23 per hour, but has since advanced to become a leader within the company. Pragano has also taken advantage of Disney's educational partnerships, which have allowed him to earn a bachelor's degree and is now halfway towards a master's degree covered by the company.

For Lori Martino, who has been working at Disney World for over two decades, it's not just about her own career advancement. She credits Disney with providing resources that allowed her to raise her children while building her career. The average tenure of full-time cast members in 'professional, leadership and skilled roles' is 12 years, three times the national average.
