Disney's Decorating Tradition Takes Over Resort Hotels
A colorful tradition has taken over Walt Disney World Resort hotels, transforming ordinary hallways into vibrant displays of creativity. Guests are decorating their resort room doors with magnets, themed signs, custom artwork, and personalized designs celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, first visits, and favorite Disney characters.
The trend started on Disney Cruise Line, where families used magnets and decorations to make it easier to identify their staterooms among long rows of identical doors. It eventually made its way to Walt Disney World, with Pop Century Resort becoming the heart of the movement.
Pop Century's guest room doors are made of metal, making it easy for guests to stick on magnets without damaging the surface. Families often arrive with personalized magnets featuring their favorite Disney characters or vacation countdowns. Some even create seasonal displays for Halloween or Christmas, while others design entirely new themes for every Disney trip.
The tradition has gained popularity through social media, with guests sharing photos online that inspire more families to join in. Housekeeping Cast Members at Pop Century have started recognizing decorated doors by attaching themed ribbons to the room doors and windows after their visits. The ribbons congratulate guests on their creativity, saying it's 'the bees knees'.
While Disney hasn't announced a formal program for decorated hotel room doors, the company has cracked down on third-party businesses offering resort room decorating services for guests. This suggests that Disney is not discouraging guests from bringing their own magnets or decorations, provided they remain respectful of the surrounding area and other visitors.
