DLSS 5 Load Tests Show GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs at Risk of Overheating
Nvidia's DLSS 5 Neural Rendering technology is being tested through an unofficial mod, and the results show that it can put a significant load on GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards.
The test was conducted using Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K resolution, with the RTX 5090 Founders Edition card pulling 13% more power with DLSS 5 enabled, reaching an average of 582.7W and a peak of 646.7W.
This exceeds the 12V-2×6 power cable rating of 600W and the card's 575W power limit, albeit for short bursts. The test also showed that more power means more heat, with the thermal camera recording a 13% / 10.8°C temperature increase on the 12V-2×6 connector when DLSS 5 was enabled.
The temperatures reached 91.7°C at the hottest point, which is close to the 105°C maximum rating of these connectors. The test also showed similar results for an RTX 5080 card, but with less danger due to its lower 360W limit.
