WiCi Unveils Wireless External GPU Powered by Wi-Fi 7
The tech firm WiCi has launched the world's first commercial wireless external GPU (eGPU) powered by Wi-Fi 7. The device, called WiCi One, can boost graphics performance on laptops and other devices without the need for cables.
The eGPU comes in two variants, with one powered by an Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16GB GPU and Intel Core 3 100U CPU, paired with 1TB of PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage. The other boasts a more powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 32GB, along with an Intel Core Ultra 7 255H, and features 4TB of PCIe 5.0 NVMe storage.
The WiCi One communicates with the host machine via Wi-Fi 7, specifically using a 4×4 320MHz link. This connection allows it to appear as any other eGPU, meaning applications and games that run on the internal GPU should work seamlessly with the WiCi One.
While the device's performance is impressive on paper, there are concerns about whether a Wi-Fi 7 connection can provide enough bandwidth for demanding tasks. WiCi claims its eGPU can deliver high frame rates in popular games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth: Wukong, but further testing is needed to confirm these results.
