Dow Futures Rise Ahead of Fed Rate Decision Amid AI Safety Concerns
The US stock market showed modest gains on Wednesday as investors await the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision later in the day. Dow Jones futures rose by 0.14% to trade near 52,190 during European hours, while S&P 500 futures increased by 0.21% to around 7,600, and Nasdaq 100 futures advanced by 0.42% to trade near 29,080.
The market is heavily anticipating a 25 basis point rate hike at the Fed's September policy meeting, with a nearly 92.5% probability of this quarter-point increase according to the CME FedWatch tool. Investors are also expecting the central bank to signal further rate hikes in the near future.
Despite the expected rate hike, traders continued to grapple with escalating safety concerns surrounding artificial intelligence development. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang pushed back against additional AI security regulations, arguing that market forces naturally incentivize technology companies to innovate safely without official government intervention.
