Dow Slumps Over 270 Points Amid Stalled US-Iran Talks
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell over 270 points on Monday as investors responded to fading hopes for de-escalation in US-Iran tensions. The decline came after President Trump rejected an Iranian proposal, which included lifting sanctions and unfreezing assets worth at least $12 billion. In response, crude oil futures briefly surged above $96 per barrel.
The S&P 500 fell 35.76 points, or 0.47%, to 7,706.65, while the Nasdaq declined 164.12 points, or 0.61%, to 26,904.60. Boeing led the Dow's decline, falling more than 5%.
Nvidia was a rare bright spot, gaining over 3% after announcing a $150 billion expansion of its share repurchase authorization. However, Tesla dropped 2.61% after JPMorgan lowered its price target on the stock to $415 from $445.
