Dow Surges 560 Points as Oil Prices Plummet

The stock market is experiencing a significant shift in mood after a volatile month. On Monday morning, the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged by 1.1% or roughly 560 points, while the S&P 500 gained 1.2% and the Nasdaq Composite led with a 1.8% jump.

The turnaround is largely due to cheaper oil prices, which are easing inflation pressure and benefiting both value and growth stocks. Cheaper crude has also reduced the cost of production for companies in various industries.

Alphabet's strong earnings report last week contributed to the rally, with its stock rising 5.3% as investors focused on the company's cloud revenue growth rather than alarming capital expenditures. Other AI-related stocks like Nvidia and Microsoft also saw significant gains.

However, not all companies are benefiting from the market's new mood. Apple's shares fell by 1.9%, weighed down by last week's soft guidance. Energy stocks are broadly down due to falling oil prices.
