Dow Tumbles as Bank Stocks Slide Amid Monetary Policy Fears
The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined on September 22 in New York Stock Exchange trading, closing down 185.14 points at 51,863.69.
The losses were attributed to concerns over U.S. monetary policy and a deteriorating earnings environment, particularly in the banking sector, where stocks like JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and Cisco Systems (CSCO) posted significant declines.
However, despite these headwinds, the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite continued its winning streak, rising 122.19 points to a record closing high of 27,244.28 for the second consecutive day.
The divergence between the Dow and Nasdaq is notable, with the latter benefiting from capital inflows into tech names, particularly semiconductor-related stocks, while the former struggles with profit-taking in the financial sector.
