Emirates' First Boeing 777-9 Rolls Off Factory Floor
The first of Emirates' 270 Boeing 777-9s has rolled off the factory floor at Seattle Paine Field International Airport, marking a significant milestone for both Boeing and Emirates. The aircraft will now move to the paint shop where it will receive multiple coats of paint over several weeks before moving on to the next stage of development.
The 777X program has faced years of delays, with the original expected entry into commercial service in 2020. However, regulatory challenges and structural problems identified during testing have pushed the timeline back by seven years. Emirates was initially set to receive its first batch of 10 777X aircraft earlier this year but rejected them due to issues with early builds.
Once painted, the jet will wear Emirates' colors for the first time and be fitted with GE9X engines and composite wings that deliver lower per-seat operating costs. The aircraft will have an extended range, allowing it to fly up to 8,000 nautical miles (14,820 kilometers), connecting Dubai to destinations in America, Europe, Africa, and Asia nonstop.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership with Emirates, stating, 'We are deeply honored that Emirates has once again selected the Boeing 777X to power its future as the airline refreshes its world-class fleet and expands its vaunted global network.'
The first 777X delivery is expected to take place next year in either May or June, pending FAA certification. This will mark a significant step forward for Emirates' operations from Dubai International Airport.
