EVA Air Set for Major Fleet Transition with New Widebody Jet Order
EVA Air, a major Taiwanese carrier, is set to replace its aging Boeing 777-300ER fleet with a new order of 24 widebody jets. The airline has been evaluating proposals from Airbus and Boeing, with deliveries targeted for the mid-2030s.
The move comes as EVA Air seeks to maintain its competitive edge in the transpacific market, where it faces intense regional competition from state-backed legacy carrier China Airlines and boutique luxury upstart Starlux Airlines.
EVA Air's fleet transition is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 15-25% per seat, supporting Taiwan's national targets for sustainable industrial development. The airline has already placed firm commitments for approximately three dozen widebody aircraft from Airbus and Boeing since 2023.
